NXEDGE Style Gundam Kimaris Mini Review

Similar to Robot Damashii, the NXEDGE Style line always interested me. They had better, sleeker and more agile proportions compared to BB Senshi, and had far more detail than SD Gunpla, not to mention they come with a stand which are so great to use for displays. However also similar to Robot Damashii, the price is what prevented be from getting these guys. One day however, I found this guy for only $10.3, and since Kimaris is one of my favorite MS from IBO, you can bet I picked one up for myself.

The figure itself is quite good for an SD, it holds it's large weapon with little issue due to it's peg-style hands, and the plastic is solid. Paint is well done and looks very nice, there is quite a nice amount of detail. The figure itself is quite articulate for an SD, although the lack of waist skirt mobility really limits what could've been amazing SD leg articulation. On the bright side, the skirts are made of a soft plastic, so that could help with posing if you're willing to risk it. Articulation overall is just good, The knees, elbows, shoulders and head all move, however the bulky armor does limit some posting, mainly head, shoulders and calves. The lower feet can also open up via partsforming to replicate the Kimaris boosting, although the feet don't actually fold up like they are supposed to, instead, you simply fold them down.

The kit comes with a decent amount of accessories, besides the foldable knife and Gungnir lance, you also get a stand which can change angle via partsforming, although I don't think the stand has enough clicks for good angles. The stand can also connect to other NXEDGE Style stands from the sides or from under them if you use the sticks that come with the figure. there is a left open hand should you need it for poses, as well as an angled holding hand for Gungnir lunging poses. You also get the parts to convert the NXEDGE Style Gundam Barbatos into it's first form. Bandai marketing strategies everyone...

Completed Product:

Overall, I for an SD figure, this figure does good. I don't have other NXEDGE Style figures to compare this with, but compared to SD Gunpla, this is definitely better. It's good good articulation for an SD, has nice accessories, is a stable figure, and has a bit of gimmicks too. The figure has the proportions that I personally prefer on an SD, with more detail as well, as good paints used which look very good. Plus, there isn't an SD Kimaris as a Gunpla kit at all, so this is the only option as of now for an SD Kimaris, and personally I think this is all you really need.

Pros:

- Paint apps are well applied and look very good. (!)
- Comes with a stand that can connect to other NXEDGE Style stands in almost any way. (!)
- Articulation is quite good for an SD, even has knees.
- Legs can open up for the flight mode.

Cons:

- Quite pricey at retail for an SD, retails at 2,700 yen.

Neutral:

- Comes with parts to turn the NXEDGE Style Barbatos into the 1st form.
